About Bracken Press print-workshop

Bracken Press  print-workshop is principally a 'Private Press', situated in the picturesque village of Scalby, near Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

The press was founded in 1974, to allow open access to fellow printmakers of all abilities ( by prior arrangement only).  The press has been housed in four different locations during the last 40 years finally coming to rest for the last 24 years in Scalby.

The fully equipped workshop produces etchings / linocuts /woodcuts/ engravings /letterpress/ limited edition fine art books and wood engravings using traditional techniques dating from the 15th Century.

The workshop houses an 1889 Albion Platen Press  and an Arab Platen Press for all surface printing and a Rochat Etching Press for intaglio printing.

The drawing studio houses a large selection on plan chests to accommodate the finished prints and somewhere to escape the messy ( sometimes) workshop.

A comprehensive selection of fine papers (supplied by R.K.Burt & Co. Ltd.) are held in stock and individual papers can be sourced very easily. Full ranges of inks for both intaglio and block printing are held in stock, along with all ancillary materials associated with printmaking.
