The Adana 3 5

In 1956 the first 3 x 5 Adana was unveiled. The machine replaced the HS/1 (High Speed 1) machine with its small chase of 3" x 2" inches.

The 3 x 5 was supplied with a larger chase (2.25 x 4.25 inches) which allowed larger work to be printed, made of aluminium rather than previous versions which were made of cast iron, and so much heavier.

Adana stopped making the 35 by the mid 1980s. This Adana was purchased at a local auctioneers for the sum of £100.00 it came with several boxes of type. Intention is to wood engrave a business card and leave it set up for when further copies of the card are required.

Some of the type which came with the Adana.

A hand operated press, nice to use for small work. The size of printed work is governed by the size of the chase.

There are two rollers which pass over the disc at the top where the ink is laid. The rollers then pass over the text held in the chase, and then once the rollers are picking up a new supply of ink the impression is made.
